I am proud to be one of the 70 signatories on the open letter addressed to the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader, calling for a complete ban on gambling advertisements as recommended in the 2023 Murphy Report – You win some, you lose more. This letter has garnered support from current and former Federal and State Members of Parliament, unions, sport representatives, faith group leaders, and academics.
The state of our national gambling problem is alarming, with a significant portion of legal gambling losses concentrated in South West Sydney. Notably with Fowler the most impacted by this issue. These annual losses amount to $25 billion, the highest per capita in the world. I have witnessed firsthand the dangers of gambling addiction on mental health and the severe consequences it has on families.
